Things Every New Mother Should Know

If you’ve only recently given birth, you are most likely overwhelmed by all the new feelings, responsibilities, and of course, your newly-discovered maternal instinct!

There are some things that you should be prepared for as a young mother. Here are some of the things every new mother should know.

1. Take Care Of Yourself First

We get it. You just became a mom, and you’re super excited! You want to do all the things you’ve always read mothers should do.

You want to care for your baby, hold your baby all day and night, and fulfill all your ‘motherly’ responsibilities. Remember, though, that before you can properly take care of your baby, you need to make sure you are in good shape.

Whether you had a normal delivery or gave birth through C-section, your body will still be in a lot of pain. It will be sore and vulnerable, and you may have to take extra care of it the first few weeks after giving birth, at least.

You will have to make sure you get enough rest, and that you eat proper, nutritious meals so that you are able to stay energetic even while your body is still weak.

So while it can be tempting to run towards your crying baby all times of the day, remember to sometimes just sit back and let others help you.

It won’t make you less of a mother if you hire a nurse or nanny to help you with the baby for the first few weeks after giving birth. If anything, letting someone help you while you focus on taking care of yourself and regaining your strength will only allow you to care better for our baby in due time.

2. Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself

Some mothers get so caught up in fulfilling their motherly duties that they forget to have any fun in their newfound motherhood.

Being a young mom is a glorious time in your life, and it should be treated as such. If you can’t do something that you’re ‘supposed’ to do, it’s okay! It’s not okay to blame yourself and to be too hard on yourself each time you weren’t able to do something that is expected from mothers.

Some mothers, for example, find breastfeeding to be extremely difficult. And that’s okay! Remember, there are no strict rules for being a good mother.

These were just some of the things every new mother should know.

At Manzil Healthcare Services, we want to make your time after delivery as comfortable as possible. We provide services such as nannies and nurses to care for both the mother and baby. Being a mother doesn’t have to be hard, with just a little bit of help!
